RSS through SMS via Pingie

If you feel that a particular RSS feed is important you might consider the service or application called Pingie from Experiment 23. Whatever your preference is or like just register and fill out the form: (i) email, (ii) cellphone number and (iii) RSS feed. This similar to the other rss to sms service offered by FeedM8 , which was featured a post or two back. At the moment Pingie is only available in the United States.

Pingie is absolutely free for you to subscribe to and to use, however your cellular carrier may charge you fees to receive text messages. Before signing up to Pingie, we recommend subscribing to an unlimited text messaging plan. Like FeedM8, Pingie seems to be useful if you will be following a specific rss feed. Otherwise, If one placed the whole OPML caboodle can you imagine the number sms that will be received and the corresponding bill. The service’s importance is lost on me since my country is not covered but Paul Stamatiou reviews Pingie here.

Even if Pingie were available in my country I am not sure I am going to use it. And my reluctance would stem from two things: (i) Do I really need the service ? and (ii) Is it worth the money or would it be better for me just to check the RSS reader when I get home.
