  • Condi Rice won’t be going after the commish job everyone knows she wants- Condoleezza Rice, a bona fide football fan, is not applying for the newly opened post of NFL commissioner — not now, anyhow, her spokesman said carefully on Monday.

“She thinks football is the greatest sport on earth, but even if she were approached for the job — which she has not been — she would have to decline,” Sean McCormack said.

  • Tony Boselli signs one day contract to retire a Jaguar- Tony Boselli, the Jacksonville Jaguars’ first-ever college draft choice, signed a one-day contract with the team Monday in order to retire as a Jaguars player.

At the same time, Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver announced that Boselli will become the first inductee into the team’s Ring of Honor this fall.

  • Keyshawn Johnson may sign with the Giants- Johnson, who was the first pick of the 1996 NFL Draft by the Jets and spent his first four seasons with the club, is scheduled to fly into the area this morning and visit with the Giants, according to a close friend and former teammate with knowledge of the talks between Johnson and the Giants.

The friend said the Giants are expected to make a strong bid to sign Johnson and may strike a deal as early as this week. Johnson is said to be excited about the opportunity to return to the New York area, a place he never wanted to leave.
