Since signing with the New Orleans Saints prior to last season, linebacker Dan Morgan has been in the news a lot. Considering that he has yet to actually play for the Saints, that’s quite an accomplishment.
Most of the news Morgan has generated has surrounded his retirement. Recently, Morgan decided to retire yet again after yet another injury.
Since entering the NFL in 2001, the now 30-year-old linebacker has never been able to play more than 13 games in a season. In the last three seasons, he’s played a total of four games.
The main injury worry throughout his career has been multiple concussions. However, the latest injury that ultimately led to his retirement was a calf strain.
When healthy, Morgan has actually been a very good player. In his career, he totaled 386 tackles, seven sacks, five interceptions and three forced fumbles.
After Morgan’s retirement, head coach Sean Payton said he doesn’t expect the team to sign a replacement linebacker.
