Samsung Soul
Another video that’s doing well in the YouTube charts is this one for Samsung Soul.
I meant to write about this last week but suddenly found the video had gone. Chasing it up, it turned out it was being re-edited slightly. If you watch the end of this video, which is rip of the original copy, you can see why – the URL at the end is wrong ;)
When you get to the right page, at samsungmobile.co.uk/soul, it’s worth the wait. The interactive part of the site, the fun part, is gorgeous, with shapes, sounds and clickable bits all contributing to a site that does not go for information up front but straight for playfulness. Unlike may ‘interactive’ sites, where there’s maybe one or two moving part, this site has a lot to play with.
After working your way through the fun bits, you get to the phone information bit (one bad thing is I can’t link directly to that section) and there’s been no skimping in the care taken here. Well put together, even down to the little touches like pulling the correct time to display on the phone.
However great the site is, I do find there is a disconnect between the video and the site, a stylistic gap between the rough and ready fun of the film and the more elegant fun of the website. Every bit of the campaign does not have to be the same, but I think I would have liked to see a little more connection.
