Sarkozy not Welcome at Beijing Olympics

July 2, 2008 by Jeanne Dupuis

According to an online poll, 88% of the Chinese respondents said that French president Nicholas Sarkozy is not welcome at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.  The survey, which has already attracted almost 100,000 participants, was created after Sarkozy threatened to boycott the opening ceremonies.  The French leader is hoping the Chinese president and the Dalai Lama can work out some of the human rights charges Tibet is leveling at the host nation.

Sarkozy said he would decide about his attendance “early next week, in Japan” during a Group of Eight summit.
