A few weeks ago, I started following thefool.com’s “This Week’s 5 Smartest Stock Moves,” and although the list reviews highlights from the past week, I thought it would be interesting to see if any of the picks turned out to be good going forward.
The moves below were originally posted by Rick Munarriz on 8/28, and below you will find how they panned out for the week of 8/31 – 9/4.
TiVo (TIVO) – Price when reported by the Fool: $10.00. Closing price on 9/4: $10.41. One-week rate of return: 4.1 percent.
Yahoo! (YHOO) – Price when reported by the Fool: $14.85. Closing price on 9/4: $14.50. One-week rate of return: - 2.36 percent.
New York Times (NYT) – Price when reported by the Fool: $7.97. Closing price on 9/4: $7.14. One-week rate of return: – 10.41 percent. I guess the good news was short-lived.
Nokia (NOK) – Price when reported by the Fool: $13.86. Closing price on 9/4: $14.38. One-week rate of return: 3.75 percent.
Google (GOOG) – Price when reported by the Fool: $464.75. Closing price on 9/4: $461.30. One-week rate of return: -0.7 percent.
So we have two out of five in positive territory for the first week of September.
This week’s picks are Research in Motion (RIMM), Disney (DIS), Sirius (SIRI), Blue Nile (NILE) and Google (GOOG). For the full article, visit thefool.com.
I have to say I’m getting a little tired of the repetition with Google, Yahoo and Sirius. These aren’t the only companies to have a good week as of late. Perhaps, the repetition means they will excel…I will explore that next Saturday!
