Save Money When Moving

After the kids leave the home and retirement looms, many people move to a smaller home to save money. But one often overlooked aspect is the move itself. Here are a few ways to save money when moving.

Don’t be afraid to throw it away
When moving, the tendency is to transport all your junk from your current place to your new place. Instead, throw away as much as possible. That way, you can save a lot of money on moving.

Plan a garage sale
For things you are too valuable to throw away but not valuable enough to move, sell it at a garage sale. Coordinate with neighbors to see if they want to join your garage sale.

Ask for help
Instead of paying a professional to move all your stuff, see if you can get help from friends or family to move the smaller things. Let the pros move the big stuff.

Get a quote for the entire move
Instead of getting an hourly quote, get a quote from a moving company for the entire process. And get the quote in writing! This will kill the chances of any hidden charges showing up at the last moment.
