I would add: Find your focus. I find that I often get distracted by all the little points or pithy comments that come to mind. If I take a moment to sit back (literally away from the keyboard), I can focus on what the piece (blog post or document for work) is really about. It’s like a meat and two veg dinner – if you forget to focus on the pork chop, then the sweet potatoes and green beans don’t make much sense.

You know, lists are easy to make when you have a LOT of people contributing to them. That "collective wisdom" thing really works! Let's have some more.

I usually do the "get a cup of coffee before proofreading" thing before publishing my monthly newsletter ... didn't this month. I regret it immensely! Great tips...

Another good thing to remember is target the writing to your audience. For example, there are some clients who will read a long list of questions and respond to them all.

But a few of them I know get e-mail via Blackberry, and generally only give yes, no, thanks, call me as responses, so I try to give as much detail in as few words to those people.
