I would add: Find your focus. I find that I often get distracted by all the little points or pithy comments that come to mind. If I take a moment to sit back (literally away from the keyboard), I can focus on what the piece (blog post or document for work) is really about. It's like a meat and two veg dinner – if you forget to focus on the pork chop, then the sweet potatoes and green beans don't make much sense.

Thanks for the opportunity to post here! By the way, I invite you check out my blog, Middle Zone Musings.

managermike, thanks for the addition to the list! I'm going to go back and add it to my blog.

Pete, you know what they say about shoes and how they fit... but I would NEVER say it :-)

You know, lists are easy to make when you have a LOT of people contributing to them. That "collective wisdom" thing really works! Let's have some more.

Readers, what other items would you add?

Am I the PETE in point #4????

Another good thing to remember is target the writing to your audience. For example, there are some clients who will read a long list of questions and respond to them all.

But a few of them I know get e-mail via Blackberry, and generally only give yes, no, thanks, call me as responses, so I try to give as much detail in as few words to those people.
