With the team at 1-13, the Oklahoma City Thunder fired P.J. Carlesimo and replaced hm with Scott Brooks. Since that point, the Thunder have gone 21-47. That improvement has earned Brooks the full-time gig as head coach at Oklahoma City. The announcement was made by Sam Presti, the general manager of the Thunder.
Prior to becoming the head coach of the Thunder, Brooks was an assistant coach in the NBA since 2003. He started with the Denver Nuggets, then moved on to the Sacramento Kings before ending up with the Thunder under Carlesimo.
Basketball fans remember Brooks as the scrappy guard who survived 11 seasons in the NBA. The best year of his career came in 1992-93 with the Houston Rockets when he averaged 6.3 points and 3.0 assists in 18.5 minutes per game. His final season was in 1997-98 while with the Cleveland Cavaliers.
As a head coach, Brooks has done a very good job with his young core. Kevin Durant and Jeff Green have both played very well under Brooks. Other young players including Russell Westbrook and Nenad Krstic have also thrived.
