Sea Salt Vs Table Salt…whats the difference and what is better for you? According to the following article from Mayo clinic dietitian Katherine Zeratsky, there is no nutritional difference. I like sea salt because I feel it has a more mild taste to me becasue there is no added iodine. I never could tell the difference until I quit smoking and table salt started to taste stronger to me and more bitter. So whats the difference?
“Sea salt and table salt have the same nutritional value. The real differences between sea salt and table salt are in their taste and texture.
Sea salt is harvested from seawater through evaporation. Table salt is typically from rock salt, which is mined from mineral deposits. Both types of salt can be fully refined, and the end result is pure sodium chloride. Variations in the refining process result in different forms of salt.
Table salt is a fine-grained salt that often contains added iodine (iodized salt). Iodine is necessary for normal thyroid function. Some table salt may also contain anti-caking ingredient.”

Having begun using sea salt only for the past year…..I have also begun having frequent UTI’s (Bladder infections). Could there be a corelation here? Anyone else having that problem?
HI Mary Lee. After your comment I got curious and started to google and from everything I have read, Sea Salt is actually a good preventive measure against UTI’s. However I would ask your physician if it persists.
