On Thursday, Willis Group Holdings announced that Chicago’s landmark building, Sears Tower will be renamed “Willis Tower.”
“Willis Tower will make us a household name among our clients, prospective clients and in the larger business community,” said Don Bailey, chairman and chief executive of Willis HRH, the company’s North American business.

The structure is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere. It’s 1,729 feet tall (including its antenna) and opened in 1973.
The building was originally named for retailer Sears, Roebuck & Co. (which moved to Hoffman Estates, Illinois in 1992).
Of course it will probably be a long time before Chicago residents begin calling it “Willis Tower” because Sears Tower was such a fixture in the city for so long.

The change of the name of the building is warranted since there is a change of tenant from sears holdings corp. to willis.. This might be a good news as they have announced that they are going to offer jobs to the residents.. Correct me if i’m wrong but i think the disadvantage of this is that the tower becomes unpopular.. People from around the world will not recognize the name Willis Tower.. It would be hard to build up the popularity of the tower in such name, i think.. Anyways, this shouldn’t be a great issue to ponder on..
