Seattle Storm re-sign Sue Bird
Continuing their signing frenzy — although we knew this was coming all along — the Seattle Storm re-signed all-everything guard Sue Bird last week.
Bird got the max (ahem) — $93,000 per year — so I guess she’s got that going for her, but she also has a slew of new talent to help her out, including head coach Brian Agler. She was asked by the Seattle Times about her ties to new teammates Swin Cash and Sheryl Swoopes.
“I’ve played with both Sheryl and Swin [on the national team], so it won’t be as difficult for me to learn my new teammates and hopefully because of that I can help make the adjustment for everyone a little smoother,” Bird wrote in an e-mail. “A lot of how our team has changed is reminiscent of the 2004 season — it was only Anne [Donovan's] second year in Seattle and our entire roster was different. We all know how that ended.”
The Storm won the championship in 2004.
You’d like to think we could call the Western Conference playoffs right now in Seattle, Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Antonio, but that’s why they play the games.
