See Quake III for the iPhone in action

Do you still remember hearing about Quake II being ported via homebrew to the DS? If you have an iPhone or iPod Touch, then know this: Quake III has been ported to the Apple handhelds. See it in action here:

I’ve never really aimed at getting an iPhone or iPod Touch so I didn’t know that these products are powerful enough to handle Quake III. Upon hearing this news, I did a little digging on the iPhone. It seems that its CPU is an underclocked 620MHz ARM 1176. Wow. Compare this to the Nintendo DS’s 67MHz CPU and it’s no surprise that Quake III is running on the Apple gadget at silky-smooth speeds.

Before you start smacking your lips, there is a problem. The control system is absolutely horrible. Can you imagine having to tilt the phone just to move the character forward, backward or sideways? Sure, the touch screen seems nice, but is the iPhone as durable as the DS? I’ll pass—on the game, not the phone.
