To whom it may concern:

I was reading about the patriotism of Michael Ilitch, how he helps veterans. I thank him for that, it makes him "A Great American".

I found a mistake on the website. It stated he is a former Marine. Could somebody let him know that "Once a Marine Always a Marine".

Respectfully,

Gunnery Sergeant Thomas L. Thomas
United States Marine Corps Retired

Joan:
Thanks for sharing that story.
When I became Director of Marketing for Auntie Anne's Pretzels, a local orphanage asked if they could have the unsold pretzels from our training store. We said yes, but usually baked up dozens of fresh pretzels every Thursday and delivered them. It was an amazing experience to deliver them and be reminded how some things we take for granted could be so valued by those less fortunate.
We had an operational challenge getting people to throw out pretzels that had been in the warmer for 30 minutes or more. People hate throwing away food. We approved freezing them and keeping them for local food pantries and food charities to pick up later. It was a big deal for us to allow anyone to freeze our pretzels, or to see them frozen, as that was taboo for a fresh-baked concept.
Just because they didn't allow giving away the product before didn't mean they didn't care about people. Sometimes its just an operational situation they needed to work out. Happily, they did.

In 1994 I worked as the mgr. of Little Caesar's located in the K-Mart in Manassas, Va. At Christmas time we had bell ringers outside from the Salvation Army. It was very cold that year. At the end of the night we always had leftover pizza slices from our pizza bar so I routinely took them out to the bell ringers who greatly appreciated them. I got found out by the mgmt. and got into a lot of trouble eventually leading to my leaving my position voluntarily because I didn't want to work for a company who felt that they couldn't feed hungry and cold people. I had been instructed to throw them out instead. I am glad to hear things have changed, per the article I read about the VA area feeding of the homeless in DC. Now I am again proud to have been a part of your organization. Sincerely, J. Kornecky, Clearwater, Fl.
