Senators Doing Some Lobbying of Their Own

Senators from both Washington and Oklahoma have spent the past day or two lobbying over a very important issue: basketball. They’re experiencing the novelty of lobbying as NBA owners meets today to decide the fate of the Seattle Supersonics. Supersonics owner Clay Bennett wants to move the team, and Oklahoma City looks like a potential home.
But the Senators from Washington, Maria Cantwell and Patty Murray, have spent a good chunk of the week trying to get David Stern, the NBA commissioner to essentially stop the move. Funny, I didn’t know that promoting basketball was listed in the duties of a U.S. Senator.
Politico.com reported on the story yesterday evening.
Sen. James Inhofe, from Oklahoma, knew it, apparently. He’s done some lobbying of his own to encourage the NBA commissioner to get the move, well, moving. Great use of congressional influence, I’m sure.
