September is Prostate Cancer awareness month and Depend , a Kimberly-Clark brand is sponsoring multiple events to raise awareness. As we all know, Prostate cancer can creep up on you in a moments notice and the best treatment is early treatment. The standard age to get checked I think is over 50, but if you have the time and means it doesn’t hurt (no pun intended) to get checked out a little earlier. So here is what Depend is doing to raise awareness of Prostate cancer.
Depend Brand Stresses Importance of
Prostate Health Awareness during the month of September
Celebrating National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, brand sponsors multiple awareness programs
NEENAH, Wis. , Sept. 10, 2008 – Depend, a Kimberly-Clark brand, will observe National Prostate Cancer Awareness Month during September by advocating the importance of prostate health awareness for men and their families.
The Depend brand will be driving multiple initiatives promoting prostate health awareness throughout the month and touting the campaign, “Do it for those who count on you.”═ The campaign places a large focus not only men, but also the loved ones who count on them most. ═
“September is the month we hope to convince men over 40, who are often obstinate about their personal health, that prostate health awareness is crucial for their family’s welfare,” said Pete Sawin, marketing director for Kimberly-Clark. “Men respond when family members are counting on them, so we also are advocating our message to their loved ones.”
To kick off the month, the Depend brand has teamed with Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and Super Bowl IV MVP Len Dawson, who is a prostate cancer survivor. Dawson ’s wife, Linda, encouraged him to participate in a free screening in 1992, which led to early detection of the Hall of Famer’s diagnosis of prostate cancer.═ Dawson has become an active voice and advocate for prostate screenings since that time.
Throughout the month, the Depend brand will partner with ZERO – The Project to End Prostate Cancer.═ Early detection is a critical step to prostate health because one in every six men are diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and several factors, including proper diet and exercise, can decrease a man’s probability of receiving the disease. The Depend brand continues to be a valued resource for those recovering from prostate health issues.
The Depend brand along with retail partner Rite Aid, will be offering free prostate cancer screenings to race fans at Dover International Speedway during the entire race weekend Sept. 19-21.═ The Kimberly-Clark sponsored No. 27 Ford Fusion race car will feature a special paint scheme with the slogan “Driven to End Prostate Cancer” for the Camping World RV Sales 200 supporting the Childress Institute for Pediatric Trauma race.
“The prostate screening is incredibly simple, non-intrusive and pain-free,” said Jamie Bearse, COO of ZERO – The Project to End Prostate Cancer.═ “Creating this awareness within the NASCAR community is important according to research by a 2008 Simmons Study which shows that a majority of the sport’s male fans are over 40.”
To complete the month of initiatives, the Depend brand will sponsor the inaugural Dash for Dad 10K race on September 28 in Alexandria , Va. ═ The event is the ninth of 13 races in the Prostate Awareness and Cancer Education (PACE) race series. All proceeds from the race will go to prostate research and free screenings in the Washington , D.C. , area to those at risk. For registration information, visit dashfordad.org.
