Serena Repeats Title at Sony Ericsson Open

Jelena Jankovic managed to fight back and win the second set to force the third and, after being down 5-0, won the next three games but Serena Williams squelched Jankovic’s comeback try to repeat as the defending champion at the Sony Ericsson Open.

Serena stormed to a one set lead, winning the first 6-1 but Jankovic battled back to win the second 7-5 before losing 6-3 in the third set.

I was able to watch part of this match on television and Serena looks good. Her tennis game is fully switched into the On position, her fitness is better than I’ve seen it many times before and her focus is sharp.

Serena annihilated Justine Henin and then blew by Svetlana Kuznetsova to set up the championship meeting with Jankovic. My real question is this: is Serena back with a purpose and focus that will last longer than it has for the past few years or will she fade away and turn her priorities back to her clothing line, acting and whatever other million irons she’s burning in the fire?
