Serena vs. Sharapova

It’s been quite awhile since we’ve had a clash of this nature: Serena Williams and Maria Sharapova will be facing each other in the quarterfinals of the Family Circle Cup. Lately, those big clashes that have been forecast usually end up being duds. Hopefully this one isn’t one of those.

Serena has had Sharapova’s number as of late, picking up the last two meetings last year, but Sharapova has improved her game and is dominating the first half of the 2008 season with a 23-1 record and three titles.

It should come as no surprise to anyone that drama queen Serena may not be in top form in the quarters against Sharapova as she turned her ankle in the second set against Katarina Srebotnik. Eh, old news really.

Jelena Jankovic, the defending champion, is still searching for her first title of the year and needed only 52 minutes to move past Anastasia Rodionova.
