Shawn Johnson Finally Gets Hers

The cutest gymnast at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, who’s actually legally sixteen years old, finally got hers.
Shawn Johnson is wrapped in silver medals, but what she wanted was a gold. Doesn’t everybody?
On Tuesday,
she killed it on the balance beam — an event that her gymnastics cohort, Nastia Liukin, normally shines at.
Johnson was practically flawless. And after her dismount, you could spot her smile all the way from America.
She’s only 4′9″, but her personality is as tall as the Empire State Building. You can’t help becoming enamored with her. She’s handled every challenge at these Olympics in stride and with the utmost professionalism.
Johnson wasn’t looked on by the judges as highly as some of her more lengthy and leaner competitors. But she refused to let that get her down. She refused to make excuses for herself. Instead, she dug deeper and pulled out a gold medal performance that was worth every penny.
“I wanted to do my best routine. I didn’t want to leave the Olympics thinking I could do better,” said Johnson.
A couple of silver and gold medals? What could be better than that? (Except Michael Phelps’ eight golds, of course.)
