Sheryl Swoops joins Storm
Man, secure your team and make a run at the title, why don’t ya?
The Seattle Storm continue to make move after move in hopes of returning to glory, and didn’t stop Monday as they signed All-WNBA-Everything Sheryl Swoops from the Houston Comets.
But she made it clear that she wanted a new challenge. From the Seattle Times:
She added, “I feel like I’ve given that organization and that city all of me. And I’m at a point in my career where I want to move on and this is a new phase of my life.
“I just didn’t have the hunger to be there anymore and really wanted a new challenge. And I wanted to put myself in the best position that I could possibly put myself in to win another championship. If this is going to be my last year, then I want to go out on top.”
The Houston Chronicle had a different telling quote about the Storm roster and how they might be the surprising pick for the WNBA Finals.
“I’m really excited about continuing my career in Seattle,” Swoopes, 36, said in a statement. “I’ve had a great career, and I’m ready to win another championship. Being a part of the championships in Houston is a great memory, and I really like the team we have in Seattle this year. I’m looking forward to playing with Lauren (Jackson) and Sue (Bird) after competing against them for so many years in the WNBA.”
I like Seattle’s chances for a return to the WNBA Finals. Glad the city will have a fun team to watch this season. This adds to the list of big-name roster moves in Seattle, including their addition of Swin Cash last month.
