Shooters sell best, says EEDAR

The Nintendo Wii may be the top-selling console (for now) and Super Mario Brothers may be the best-selling game of all time, but have you always wondered which genre or rating sells best?
GameSpot revealed that Electronic Entertainment Design and Research (or EEDAR) conducted a study called “Console Intelligence Brief 2007.” This research involved collecting data on a good number of games for the Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 since each consoles release through June 1.
Read the most interesting findings after the jump. The most interesting as regards FPS Rantings, at least.
First: games that received an M for Mature rating had the highest review scores and average gross sales in the U.S. In addition, these games reached their sales figures even if they weren’t offered for sale at “major retailers.”
According to EEDAR, action games were the most dominant genre during their study. Here’s the other stat that we’re gloating about: the shooter genre is said to have amassed the highest gross sales.
This means that our favorite genre is tops among the other game genres. Step aside RTS and RPG. It’s time to open that bottle of champagne that I’ve been storing since last Christmas.

I’ve never counted, but I bet over half of the games I have are shooters.
Doom. GoldenEye. Halo. Call of Duty. The Darkness. TimeShift. TimeSplitters. Chronicles of Riddick. Bioshock.
And those are only my favorite games/franchises. Well, Halo and Call of Duty aren’t necessarily favorites of mine, but you get the idea.
RPG, what? Fighting games, what?
Tekken ain’t got shit on Rapture.
Mustn’t forget Half-Life and FarCry!
Tekken ain’t got shit on City 17 or Black Mesa.
