  1. austin says:

chase daniels should not win heisman you look at the teams he plays and the way he plays its not pretty. Darren Mcfadden deserves it more than anyone else expecialy after his game against lsu. chase daniels does not deserve the heisman.

  2. Allison says:

    Austin,

I tend to agree with you. Chase Daniels is a good player. The best? Probably not. If I had a vote, it would probably go to McFadden.

  3. Bill says:

Are you kidding me? Who throws a tighter spiral than Chase? Who consistantly can thread the needle and hit a receiver sandwiched between two DB’s? I have watched Chase since he came in for Brad Smith as a freshman and pulled out a come from behind victory. I knew then he would be special. He play smart and is as valuable to MIZZOU as Dickson was to Oregon.

He’s one of the prettiest QB’s I haver seen and I will put MIZZOU’s schedule up against anyone’s. Their record speaks for itself.

  4. Allison says:

    Bill,

I didn’t say Daniels was a bad player! I mean, I’d put him in the top five – not just top five quarterbacks, either – top five college football players. I’m just not convinced that he’s the best overall.

It’s a tough call to say who “deserves” the Heisman. With so many different schedules, injuries, etc, there are a lot of arguments for a lot of different players. Like what about Colt Brennan? What about Dennis Dixon? It’s a tough battle to the top.

  5. Tim says:

How about a very key ingredient that everyone’s forgetting here that should be heavily factored into the Heisman decisioning … something that won’t show up in the box score – leadership and command.

The fact is that Tim Tebow has led last year’s National Champions to (3) losses this year. McFadden’s had a great overall year, no doubt, but he hasn’t had the consistency that Chase & Tebow have both had. Chase Daniels has showed up on the field to impress week in and week out, and HE is the reason that Mizzou is the Cinderella success story that they are this season.

  6. Bill says:

I appreciate Tim’s comments but I’m not sure MIZZOU is a Cinderall Story. Gary Pinkal has been putting together a contender over the past 4 years. The only problem with MIZZOU last year was some bad calls from the refs ie: Iowa State where Chase scored the winning touchdown in the final minute that was called back for holding(the Big 12 commissioner said that if that was holding then the every offensive play should have been flagged. Also, in their bowl game where Oregon State went for 2 and no one could see including the regs where he actually crossed the goal line.

Saturday will tell us whether Pinkel can win the big one. 21 points in turnovers killed us. We actually beat OU in about every dept other than turnovers.

In any case, Chase has proven that he is a commander on the field and he is backed by the best tightend duo in the nation. These guys are really just “extra large wide receivers.

Here’s what the experts are saying:
What They’re Saying About Chase Daniel…
“I’m sure we just sent him to New York. He made good decisions all night and didn’t try to force anything. He’s got my vote.”
    — Kansas All-America CB Aqib Talib, Nov. 24, 2007
“How good is Missouri quarterback Chase Daniel anyway? … to me, Daniel’s brilliance has nothing to do with the big numbers he puts up more or less every week. Howie Long once gave a great explanation of what it was like to get beat by quarterback legend Joe Montana. He said it was like getting knocked out in a pillow fight. You never felt the blow. And you were all kinds of mad afterward. That’s as good as any description of Daniel. … So what does Daniel do? Something right. On every play. In chess, grandmasters will tell you that it’s the most innocuous-looking moves that are deadliest.”
    — Joe Posnanski, Kansas City Star, Nov. 25, 2007
“…The best quarterback in the country just might not be the broad-shouldered kid from Gainesville. It could be the undersized kid from the Dallas suburbs who threw for 361 yards and three touchdowns against the nation’s No. 8 defense. Via the miracle of national television and the kid’s rocket arm, the country was introduced formally to Chase Daniel.”
    — Dennis Dodd, CBS Sportsline, Nov. 25, 2007
“You saw it, America saw it. They saw this guy in adverse conditions in the fourth quarter who had to make plays. We got a 15-yard penalty and somehow we get a way to convert it. He’d be the first one to tell you it was the offensive line, the wide receivers or tight ends, but I’m going to be the first one to tell you, this guy is special. I’ve said this for a year-and-a-half, and America got to see it today how special he is. What a remarkable competitor. What a great player also when you need to make a play. How often does he make plays? I just have to say, he’s a great player. 40-of-49 (passing)? That’s unbelievable.”
    — Missouri Head Coach Gary Pinkel, Nov. 24, 2007
“Daniel threw no picks and made almost no errors of any kind. Quarterbacks coach Dave Yost did come up with one: Daniel screwed up a protection call on one play in the first half. That was it. In 93 high-pressure snaps with the entire season on the line, Daniel damn near pitched a perfect game.”
    — Pat Forde, ESPN.com, Nov. 24, 2007
“The one thing Daniel has done [that others haven't]: He’s been unstoppable every single game. He’s completed at least 59 percent of his passes in all 12 outings. He’s thrown for at least 210 yards every time out — and gone over 300 yards in eight out of 12 games. He’s had an in-game efficiency rating of less than 136 only once, and that was a respectable 124. In short, nobody has been more consistently excellent than Daniel.”
    — Pat Forde, ESPN.com, Nov. 27, 2007
“Daniel completed 40 of 49 passes for 361 yards and three touchdowns. On a night when his passes were laser-accurate, his Heisman highlight came when he produced Missouri’s second touchdown, thanks to his legs. On third and goal from the 11, the Southlake Carroll product scrambled for nine seconds. Right tackle Colin Brown peeled back to throw a key block and Daniel found Danario Alexander. Alexander came back for the pass, then spun into the end zone to give the Tigers a 14-0 lead. Daniel, though, made it possible with his make-a-play attitude.”
    — Wendell Barnhouse, Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Nov. 25, 2007
“Daniel is the straw that stirs the Missouri punch. He is audacious and poised, and showed every inch of that in gunning down Kansas in what was his coming-out party. The Missouri offense, which spreads sideline to sideline, remains the only team in the country to score at least 30 points every game this season.”
    — Mike Lopresti, USA Today, Nov. 25, 2007
“This sawed-off Texan with a saddle full of swagger and savoir-faire is the best quarterback in the nation.”
    — Tom Dienhart, The Sporting News, Nov. 14, 2007
“No college QB makes better, smarter decisions. He’s accurate and very patient in the run game, too.”
    — Bruce Feldman, ESPN.com, Oct. 8, 2007
“How much better is Daniel in his second season as a starter? Today, he ought to be mentioned in the same breath as any other Heisman Trophy contender. It’s not just that he completed 33 of 47 throws for 401 yards and a couple of scores. Or that he added 72 rushing yards on 11 carries. It’s how he did it — effortlessly. Remember how Eric Crouch looked behind center? Missouri’s got the same kind of cat, I mean, tiger.”
    — Curt McKeever, Lincoln Jounal Star, Oct. 7, 2007
“Missouri QB Chase Daniel has made the Tigers’ multi-faceted offense into one of the nation’s most explosive units, as well as pushing himself into prime Heisman Trophy contention if he can keep playing strongly.”
    — Tim Griffin, San Antonio Express-News, Oct. 10, 2007
“I don’t know if he’s the best quarterback in the country, but someone’s got to show me who’s better than him.”
    — Gary Pinkel, Nov. 10, 2007
“He beat us with his arm and he beat us with his legs… But, as much as anything, he beat us with his head. He’s a really, really smart quarterback and he’s just danged tough to defend.”
    — Ole Miss Defensive Coordinator John Thompson
“Missouri junior Chase Daniel has become a ringleader in the spread-offense revolution.”
    — Joey Johnston, MSNBC.com, Nov. 14, 2007
“You should know Chase Daniel, he’s a stud at quarterback. I have a tremendous amount of confidence in what Chase Daniel has been able to do so far this year. He’s a one-man wrecking crew, the guy is very, very efficient, he’s smart and he’s tenacious. And when you watch him run, he understands angles and runs with a confidence they haven’t seen in awhile there at Mizzou.”
    — Spencer Tillman, CBS Sports Analyst, Oct. 11, 2007
“I’m really impressed with Chase Daniel … He’s a surgeon with the football.”
    — Matt Davison, Husker Radio Network, Oct. 6, 2007
“Chase is something special. Not only does he have the skill level, he has the maturity and toughness. All he cares about is winning. I’m glad he’s a junior, and I’m glad he’s on my team.”
    — Gary Pinkel
“In the preseason he was just one of the quarterbacks, along with Texas Tech’s Graham Harrell, Texas’ Colt McCoy and Texas A&M’s Stephen McGee, but Missouri’s Daniel has separated himself from the pack.”
    — Blair Kerkhoff, Kansas City Star, Nov. 13, 2007
“Chase Daniel should be getting serious consideration for the stiff-armed statuette. He’s the ringmaster of one of the nation’s most prolific offenses, his numbers rival those of any other candidate and he has the 9-1 Tigers in national title contention. It has been a big year for Big 12 quarterbacks (Daniel, Sam Bradford, Graham Harrell and Todd Reesing), but Daniel has been the best. And with potentially two high-profile games remaining (Kansas and a Big 12 championship contest), he just might pull this off.”
    — Gene Menez, cnnsi.com, Nov. 13, 2007
“He’s directing an offense that is difficult to defend and he has a lot of weapons at his disposal – both in the passing and running games. Still, that doesn’t change the fact that Daniel has had a brilliant season. (Missouri has scored at least 31 points in all 10 games this season). He’s stayed away from mistakes, his decision-making is solid and he’s a precise and accurate passer. He’s one of the main reasons Missouri remains in the national title hunt.”
