Should Strahan Stay or Go?

Michael Strahan could very well have his own “the hall of fame quarterback who shall not be named” moment.

That’s right. Strahan is considering a return to the New York Giants for one last farewell season. What is it about the lure of “just one more?”

I mean, I’m a compassionate person. I know it’s hard to let go of something that has basically been all you’ve known for 15 some odd years or so. But come on. Sometimes is just time to walk away a la Barry Sanders.

But Strahan’s even got a better storybook ending. He has the opportunity to walk away as a World Champion. He has the opportunity to capitalize on his signature gapped-tooth smile by showing his familiar mug on Fox Sports as an NFL analyst . it’s also rumored that he’ll be showered with endorsement spots and possible movie and television cameos. What could be better than that?

hmmmm … 8 million dollars perhaps?

Now that defensive end Osi Umenyiora is down and out for the season, the Giants desperately need someone to take his place. They were going to offer Jason Taylor 8 million dollars before he slipped away to the Redskins. So now Strahan is reportedly saying, “offer me the same and I’ll see what I can do.”

I think Strahan should stay put. Going back to the Giants for another season doesn’t seem like the better option. And winning another Superbowl in such dramatic fashion, well lighting doesn’t strike twice … or does it?

Here’s a video clip of Strahan giving a victory speech after the Giants won the 2007-2008 Superbowl. All of the fans are chanting “one more year!” Maybe they knew something we didn’t?

  1. I am a Giants fan from Sao Paulo, Brazil.
I really liked your blog with the Giants mention item. I grew up watching Lawrence Taylor and Phil Simms.
I try to follow as much NFL news as I can with the internet.
