Showdown delay

Day 2 of the Productivity Blog Showdown has experienced a slight delay. I’ve got Steve’s answers to the day’s questions, but Fred had some family business to attend to and has asked for an extension.

We’ll resume on Wednesday with answers from both Steve and Fred to the following questions which fall into a theme of "Money and Passion":

You both seem to encourage paying less attention to how much money you make, and pay more attention to what you’re passionate about. With that in mind, please address the following:
a.    What if your passion IS money?
b.    What should I do if my passion requires money, and in order to make money, I need to work a whole bunch of hours per week at a job I’m not passionate about, leaving no time for my passion?
c.    Conversely, what should I do if I know that my passion is staying home with my family (or similar non-paying passion), but doing that won’t pay the bills? How can I reconcile being away from my family/passion in order to "just" make money?

Sorry for the delay…stay tuned for Wednesday.

Great questions. It will be very interesting to see how the participants respond to questions about how to balance practical concerns (i.e., the need to have money to pay bills and expenses) with following your passion. I’d like to see a full discussion about how they would approach a choice between staying in a profession that pays very well but is not satisfying and leaving a profession that pays very well to do something that is likely to be much more satisfying but also pays much less. I suppose it is a matter of deciding exactly how much happiness you get from doing a job you love (or, conversely, how unhappy a job you hate makes you) and how much money you really need in this life.
