Here is a fun ad for car insurance. It’s a Geico ad featuring the character Speed Racer. A definite classic.

However, saving money on car insurance may require more work than just going to one company and hoping to save money. You really should shop around for different quotes. And, here are some other things you can do to help you reduce the cost of your auto insurance:

1. Pay a higher deductible.
2. Take towing off your policy.
3. Consider taking car rental off your policy.
4. Get a discount for more insurance through the company. (I save a great deal with a “tri-line”: life, auto and homeowners. If you don’t own a home, you can usually substitute renters insurance.)
5. Keep a good credit history. (Insurance companies actually use your credit score to determine premium rates.)
6. Be a good driver.
7. If you are a student (or have a student dependent), check into good student discount programs.

In the end, there is a great deal you can do to help keep your car insurance costs lower.
