Small business owners in the UK clock 50+ hours per week

August 20, 2008 by ShannonCherry

A recent survey from the Bank of Scotland shows that most UK small business owners are working 50+ hours per week, a rise of almost 3 additional hours compared to this time last year.

And more than a quarter of the 1,003 surveyed feel that they will have contribue to work long hours for the rest of 2008 due to the tough economic climate.

So what’s it like for US small business owners? Are you working more than your counterparts across the pond?

  1. Well I’m from the UK and would probably have to agree that I work in excess of 50 hours per week at present. The economic situation here in the UK at the moment calls for it to be perfectly honest.

We are one bad quarter away from an official recession according to experts, so I think many are working as hard as possible to stay a float. For me personally its not a case of staying a float but trying to get as much work done as possible, as quickly as possible. Here I am 11am on a Sunday working up bits and pieces… but hey, I enjoy it! :- )
