According to Smith & Wesson’s fiscal fourth-quarter profit report, the gun maker has experienced a significant surge in profits in the last couple months. A marked increase in demand for military and police pistols has caused the company’s profits to double as fears continue to spread regarding a potential ban on the sale of certain weapons.
Although there has been no official word on whether or not President Obama would reinstate such a ban, many gun makers have posted a remarkable increase in gun sales recently. Smith & Wesson reported a $7.4 million profit, up from $3.3 million just a year ago. This number far outstrips what analysts had predicted for the gun maker.
Smith & Wesson still has not decided whether or not it will acquire Universal Safety Response Inc., though, despite its recent success. This would make Smith & Wesson a player in the booming perimeter-security market where it would most likely be able to leverage its recognized name to edge out the competition.
