For those of you on DirecTV, have the 5-LNB dish and a B-Band Converter and you’re just waiting to get some sort of new HD content, well, you may not have that much longer to wait. Broadcasting & Cable is reporting that Wednesday, DirecTV will go live with the new Smithsonian Channel. The new channel will be located on channel 267 on the DirecTV HD Xtra Pack. Also reported is that they will launch with around 75 hours of content, or only 3 1/4 days of new content without it being repeated. So you’ll get the new content, but it’ll be awhile before you see new material. Ouch. The Smithsonian Channel would like to have about 100 hours of HD content by the end of the year, while reaching 200 hours by August 2008. DirecTV users on the new DirecTV-10 sat, set your alarms for Wednesday.
