FranchisePick.com mourns the passing of the State College, PA Cereality cereal cafe.
We mourn the passing because that leaves only three remnants of the silliest, most self-indulgently bad idea to have ever graced the Franchise Graveyard. We mourn the passing because soon these last three will disappear, and future generations may doubt that there were once people who had good enough credit to fund a $300,000 cereal cafe but not even a couple good enough friends, family members or advisors to keep them from doing so.
Even college kids who’ve spent the last five years in a haze of beer, smoke and liberal arts could see what a truly stupid idea Cereality is. Reports Ha-Mace, Chief Contributor of State College’s On the Record blog:
As I drove down College Avenue earlier today I noticed that the door and windows of Cereality were
covered with paper… I was never in Cereality because, although I love my cereal, I just can’t imagine paying that much for a bowl of Frosted Flakes. But anytime I walked by (with the exception of the week they opened) I really never saw many people in the place.
I think when Dunkin Donuts opened essentially across the street it was the end of Cereality. I don’t care how comfortable your chairs are if it’s between a bowl of Fruity Pebbles at Cereality and a bacon, egg and cheese on a cinnamon-raisin bagel at Dunkin’ Donuts I’m going to DD every time.
So, for the three of you who enjoyed visiting Cereality you’re just going to have to go somewhere else. I’m sure The Diner can overcharge you for Cap’n Crunch if you want.

I’ve only been to Quaker Steak once, and it was pretty good. It’s pretty popular though I think among the residents of State College. They also have a stand that sells buckets of wings at Home Football games and those are very popular. I’ve never tried the atomic wings but I’m usually not a fan of extreme spiciness!
My friends and I (students) tend to order wings from Wings Over Happy Valley. It’s a franchise (simply called Wings Over ______)…. you’ve probably heard of them.
The pretzel place opening up is “Pretzel Time”
