Watch out social media users, Google just might be trying to “wave” you down to get your attention again with their latest product, Google Wave. Is the next wave in the social media front Google Wave? Will it actually deliver all that it promises? Let’s take a look at what Google’s Wave is all about. First, let’s take a look at a screenshot of a typical view of Wave.

Next, I found in viewing the developers preview video, that Wave it is a very unique web based program. It will revolutionize the way social media users communicate and share information with their friends, family and business associates. Not only does it allow for real-time connecting but it also has built-in “WOW” features such as document sharing or real-time polling gadgets, etc. As their website states, Google Wave has three key components:

  • A wave is equal parts conversation and document. People can communicate and work together with richly formatted text, photos, videos, maps, and more.
  • A wave is shared. Any participant can reply anywhere in the message, edit the content and add participants at any point in the process. Then playback lets anyone rewind the wave to see who said what and when.
  • A wave is live. With live transmission as you type, participants on a wave can have faster conversations, see edits and interact with extensions in real-time.

Finally, what does this all mean to social media users? Glad you ask. It means that once it’s released to the public that you can connect live with business associates in real time and collaborate on project. Or you could schedule a meeting with your virtual team so that you can hold a team meeting. The possibilities are countless! Also according to their website,

Google Wave is a new tool for communication and collaboration on the web, coming later this year. Watch the demo video below, then visit Google Wave website to sign up for updates and learn more about how to Google Wave.
