Social Networking Oatmeal (oatmeal is sticky, get it?)

One of the things about networking that separates it from many things online is that it is a moment shared. However, many new online networking tools have a bit more staying power than an in-person conversation at a local networking event. These forms of networking have staying power, it’s like they stick to your ribs like oatmeal.
Over time many online social networks stop receiving as high of placement in the search engines and they can become lost in the results. Twitter seems to be ranking more like a blog than a forum or social network site like Facebook. Twitter is a micro-blogging platform that seems to be as sticky as oatmeal, especially if your screen name is your real name or nickname. With major corporations joining the tweetfest it is ever more important to be aware of what we write online.
Networking online does not fade, like a conversation in ones memory, it stays out there somewhere on the Internet. Keep it positive, you never know when a prospective employer will have an intern do a thorough Google background check and find that forum post 20 pages deep in Google where you rip on a previous boss and give away proprietary info.
