Virtual Job Fairs are here to stay. You may not even know that you could attend a virtual job fair, but they are available at Second Life. What is Second Life? Second Life® is a 3-D virtual world created by its Residents. Since opening to the public in 2003, it has grown explosively and today is inhabited by millions of Residents from around the globe.
Have you ever considered participating in a virtual job fair? Do you believe you can get a job? Are the job offers real? Here is a story you must read from Simone Brunozzi – How I got Hired by Amazon.com
Here is an excerpt that may help you consider visit Second Life and meet people and organizations that may take your job search to a new level.
It was an ordinary day in Italy on November 28th, 2007, when I logged in to Second Life.
I had planned to visit the Luxembourg Virtual Job Fair to report my impressions on my Second Life blog. Tired of being a disposable system administrator at the University for Foreigners in Perugia, without any good career opportunity ahead, I was looking for a new job, and the fair was therefore a chance for me to look around.I landed on the island with my avatar, almost half an hour before the end of the fair. With surprise, I noticed that banks and financial companies weren’t the only companies attending: there was also… Amazon.com! Wait a minute, I thought, what brings the great Amazon.com in a tiny place like Luxembourg? You have to know that Working in a company like Amazon, Google, Ebay or Yahoo has been my dream since my studying experience in California in late 2003; no doubt I decided in less than zero seconds to check it out.
I showed up at the Amazon.com’s booth, with my well-dressed and custom-skinned avatar which, as a bonus, has my same name, Simone Brunozzi (don’t ask me how I got it because it’s a secret). Virtual job fairs are not so common, right, but having used Second Life for almost two years, and having led one of the biggest and greatest project in Second Life, the construction of the Basilica of Saint Francis of Assisi (SLURL), I was confident and relaxed, able to move and interact like a pro. The next Virtual Job Fair will be in November. I know that November is 5 months away. But the value of you learning about Second Life today, you can get in there and learn how to navigate. How to meet people. So that when the Virtual Job Fair comes in November, you are not frustrated with the navigating through Second Life.

Darlene – you are so right about learning to navigate before the job fair. I joined and logged in for the last job fair in May and never made it out of the first part because some girl kept running over me with her car. Shame on you, Jessica! I’ll be sure to be prepared by November.
Hey Gina, I haven’t been able to navigate from the entry way. My computer keeps freezing. But I am working on all of the technical issues now, so that I can be ready for the job fair in November too. I should be a “pro” by then.
