Some BCS News (and my two cents)

Its actually more like four or five cents, but I digress. Since the “big game” here are some of the things that have been going on in the world of NCAA football:

  • Tim Tebow had surgery on his non-throwing shoulder to remove bone spurs and debris. He made an emotional announcement that he’s not going to enter the draft.

Good for him. I mean, for what Tebow does, he just isn’t big enough for the NFL. Sure, he can throw the ball, but his novelty is that he can run it too, and in the NFL, that will lead to an injury. So it makes sense for him to stay his last year at Florida. This is probably the peak of his career. Why not?

  • Bobby Bowden is remaining as coach at Florida State. This will be his 34th season there.

Good for him too. I’m not sure why anyone thought he wouldn’t return. Like with JoePa, FSU would need a REALLY good reason to kick him to the curb. Florida State isn’t a championship team, but they have a solid program there, and Bowden is a good coach. Bowden is 79 and earns just over $2 million a year.

  • People are accusing Utah’s attorney general of wasting resource with a probe of the BCS system.

This shouldn’t even be an issue. Everyone needs to stop “probing” when it is convenient to them. You notice that teams who benefited from the system this year (or at least, weren’t jaded like Utah) are mum. Everyone need to band together and call for reform. What is funny, though, is that he answered critics on his personal blog.

  • San Jose State’s Dick Tomey is the new president of the American Football Coach’s Federation.

Ok? More interesting, though, is probably the fact that they voted Utah’s Kyle Whittingham Coach of the Year.

  • Florida State’s Myron Rolle has chosen to accept Oxford’s invitation to study there. He says, though, that he’ll enter the 2010 draft.

How could you say no? I know that the NFL potentially means a lot of money, but money and fame fade for more players. This is an opportunity of a lifetime, and I’m glad he took it.

  • Mark Sanchez is entering the draft. Sam Bradford is returning to Oklahoma.

Uh…what, Mark Sanchez? Duuuuuuuumb. He team will still be awesome next year, and he can go for a national title! He started for ONE year. He’s not a stand out or anything. He’s ok, but next to all the other talent…

Although maybe this makes sense. Tebow’s not in the draft. Bradford’s not in the draft. McCoy’s not in the draft. Who’s his QB competition this year? Matt Stafford, but that’s pretty much it. So I guess he does have a chance at going high this year for his position, probably even first round.
