Some Notable BCS News: Wed, Sept. 10

Today there was an explosion of BCS Football news, so rather than separate posts for each story, here’s a run-down:

  • UW coach Tyrone Willingham: “Moooooooooooom. They’re pickin’ on meeeeeeeeeee…” UW president: “Kids, be nice to Tyrone! He’s sad about your two losses too, but we’re playing #3 Oklahoma this week, so we need to think positively. Now finish your broccoli!” UW Fans: “Waaaaaaaaaah we lost to BYU…” Read more about the president’s plea to fans here.
  • Kevin Murphy, attorney for NCAA-jade Ben Mauk is “shocked” to hear the judge’s final ruling against Mauk’s sixth year of eligibility. Shocked? Oh, come on. This was his final attempt after what, five appeals? If you actually care about the Ben Mauk saga, you can read about decision here.
  • Charlie Weis said “To hell with Michigan” and suddenly that’s news? Ohio State has been saying that for years. USA today even picked up on the story on Weis’ comments, and you can read more here.
  • Beanie Wells is reportedly going to play. If Ohio State has a prayer against USC this weekend, they need him, so this is good news. Of course, in my opinion, cheering for OSU is nothing more than picking the lesser of two evils, so I might boycott the game altogether. Kind of like the 2004 election (look, I even found an OSU link!). You can read all about Beanie’s probable return here.
  • It’s East Carolina University, not Berkeley. Excessive police force last weekend at ECU has prompted the college to change how they handle authorities at games (and during the celebration afterwards). Oooooo…someone is getting fireeeeeeeed over this one! ESPN covers the story here.

Even more, though less interesting news:

  • Minnesota’s Duane Bennett is out for the season.
  • Iowa has named Ricky Stanzi their official starting QB over Jake Christensen.
  • Steve Spurrier will use a duel QB system to try to beat Georgia this weekend.
  • Washington’s leading tackler, EJ Savannah is tranferring.
  • Former Colorado AD and head coach Eddie Crowder passed away.
  • Hurricane Ike is forcing Texas to postpone against Arkansas, but LSU will play North Texas as scheduled.
