Sonic X-Treme Revisited…

I don’t really mean revisited… None of us actually had the chance to play the game, but when Edge recently posted with details of Sonic X-Treme, the game that arguably doomed the Saturn which in turn jeopardised Sega’s future console success, I had to let you guys know.
Over the past month Chris Senn, art director, team coordinator, and eventually co-designer over the course of X-treme’s development cycle, has been unearthing and documenting all of the related ephemera from his days on the project on his home-site forums…
The article links to two forum posts, one containing links to some animated gif demo movies, and another to sketches of enemy designs. There is also a link to a fantastic article about the game on Lost Levels Online.
If you’re a Sonic fan wanting to find out more about what could have been then this is essential reading. For those of you that know a little about the game already, you’d still do well to check out the forum posts. The animations actually make the game look like fun, although I imagine it would have been an utter swine to control.
Here’s the article on Edge Online, go and have a read!
