Sony Abuses DMCA to Censor Beyonce Fall Videos

August 3, 2007 by Mike Abundo

I’d like to remind Sony that DMCA takedown notices require sworn statements. To lie in a sworn statement constitutes perjury.

Videos of Sony artist Beyonce Knowles stumbling at a concert in Orlando obviously fall well within the bounds of fair use as reportage. Sony does not have the right to issue DMCA takedown notices claiming otherwise. By issuing such takedown notices, they may well have committed perjury.

Censorship cannot be allowed to masquerade as copyright enforcement. DMCA abuse to suppress embarrassing footage only deepens the embarrassment. Don’t be a copyright troll. Respect fair use.
