Sony Calls The Wii An Impulse Buy

Heh, I have visions of Wiis sitting between the Orbit gum and the Tic Tacs at the local supermarket now. Maybe near a tabloid magazine, too.
Dave Kerraker (Sony spokesperson) told the New York Times in a recent interview, “Wii could be considered an impulse buy more than anything else,” he declared.
That’s a very expensive piece of gum.
It’s no secret that the PS3 isn’t breaking any records lately. In fact, some stores are now trying to get rid of them. I guess Sony is just trying to make themselves look better by bringing down the Wii. I think it’s a little too late for that. Nintendo is fanning themselves with dollar bills while Sony scrambles around looking for answers to their sliding numbers.
Don’t think calling the Wii an ‘impulse buy’ is going to have flocks of gamers rushing to buy the PS3 all of a sudden.
That said, the PS3 is selling all the same. Something around 700,000 consoles sold, and that’s pretty good considering its high cost. Still nowhere near the PS2’s success, though.
Sony is probably waiting on the European release to see how hard to kick themselves, I bet.
