Spacing.ca and the Rise of C$

Although I’m an avid reader of Spacing.ca, I purchased a magazine subscription today as a way to support what I see as Toronto’s best city-focused blog.

What I found particular fascinating was the pricing, which shows a lower US$ price – $29 Canadian for six issues vs. US$31. When was the last time you saw that?

is pricing a good thing or bad thing?

Spacing actually has to raise US price now becuz its so expensive to Canadians to mail to the US.

I probably wasn’t clear – I think it’s interesting to see U.S. prices higher than Canadian prices after so many years of having the gap the opposite way. Of course, there are downsides to a higher dollar but many consumers aren’t thinking about it right now.

I’ve always seen it that way. Maybe its just the mags I read.

Anyway, it costs us almost $4 just to mail our copies into the states. That’s $24 of the $31 for a 6 issue sub. Now that $31US is close to $30 Cdn.

So even though the dollar is soaring its harder for us to make back the money now. US subs may jump to $38.
