SPAM and Spamalot
Monty Python are responsible for a whole rich vein of humour and more in modern culture. One of their legacies appears to be spam, or at least the noun applied to that annoying unwanted email and other advertising. Taken from their 1970 comedy sketch, which features the word at least 132 times, it’s become ingrained in the vernacular. Hormel Foods, the company behind the luncheon meet SPAM® have not always been the most comfortable with it, but live with it whilst policing the use of their trademark to keep it separate.
HJowever, somethings are just too good too ignore and now Hormel have come together with the Monty Python lot and produced a special edition of SPAM, the Stinky French Garlic variety and the flash game to go with it, to promote the first year of the Spamalot show in London. I love the URL – spamspamspamspam.co.uk, so go beat up the French (in the absolutely non-violent virtual way online)
Other activity to celebrate the anniversary is the British attempt to break a world record set in New York last year, for the world’s largest coconut orchestra. Visit Trafalgar Square on 23 April (St George’s Day) and join in the rendition of Always Look on the Bright Side of Life. Go on, you know you want to.

I still won’t eat Spam. You can’t make me.
