Spam zombies in Microsoft’s sights

Microsoft claims it has identified 13 generators of spam zombies. Zombies are computers that have been compromised and are remotely controlled, unknown to the user, to do the bidding of the spam merchant. The company has now filed suits against these spamming operations.

Tim Cranton, Microsoft’s Director of Internet Safety Enforcement Programs says, a lawsuit was filed against unnamed defendants in August. Since then Microsoft has tracked down some of the people behind the operations.

Zombie PCs are a growing problem on the Internet. Microsoft claims that more than half of all spam is sent by them.
