Speaking Engagement – Bring Handouts

If you find yourself in a position where you’re going to be talking in front of a group about something…give them something to look at while you talk. Learning is far more effective if you get in through ears AND eyes instead of just ears.

Don’t overwhelm them with an encyclopedia of information. A few screenshots to follow along with can be a world of help for your audience. Even if you have a projector or a fancy powerpoint presentation…give them handouts. Not everyone will be in a position to easily see your screen and they certainly can’t take your powerpoint presentation home with them to look at later!

Also, if you find you haven’t brought enough handouts for everyone (it happens to the best of us) gather e-mail addresses and send a PDF of your presentation to everyone. That way they can refer back to your wisdom and advice at a later date!
