Speaking of the Writer’s Strike…

Believe it or not, I don’t have a television set. I raised my kids without one and have found that I truly don’t enjoy it. So the writer’s strike is, well, not much in my consciousness. This morning I heard a talk show host riffing on last night’s Letterman show and the possibility there won’t be an Oscar celebration this year because of the strike, but mostly I don’t know much.
So, are you a writer on strike? If so, how’s it going?
How is the writer’s strike showing up (or not) in your life?
Be my eyes and ears and tell us about it.

I’m not a writer involved with the strike, but I’m part of a family that got rid of our TV six years ago. Even when we had it, I rarely watched it. So similar situation, there. :-)
(It was a bit awkward and confusing when I was commuting to a university where most professors often referenced popular shows to make points in classes, though…)
I don’t often find myself thinking about the strike, but when I do (mostly due to my enjoyment of Moonlight, which my friend had to expose me to, I get frustrated. It just adds to the list of reasons why I want to stay far, far away from scriptwriting.
As a writer, I’m all for writers getting what they’re entitled to. But some of these writers are making around $500,000 a year, and are putting others who make far less out of work while they’re on strike, which dials down the sympathy factor.
We’ve lost so much of the middle class to union busting, off shoring, etc… it’s really hard.
