Specifying Parameters for UPDATE Statements

Are you tired of my questions about Visual Web Developer Express and .NET development? I hope not as it seems to be a popular source of information and research on the Internet.

Here’s my question for today.

If I’m using separate stored procedures to SELECT, UPDATE and INSERT values into a database, why doesn’t the Visual Web Developer Express interface allow me to choose my parameter source locations for the parameters requested in each of those statements?

As you can see form the screen shot above, the only option I have in the “Define Parameters” window are those requested in the Select Statement.

The application example for this is that in the SELET statement, I don’t care who the UserID is, but when I’m updating the record I need to know the UserID because I want to know who just updated the record. In this instance, I’m pulling the UserID from a Session stored parameter.
