Steven Spielberg will join filmmaker Zhang Yimou in designing the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2008 Beijing Olympics.

spielbergZhang, who directed films like “Hero” and “House of Flying Daggers,” is to lead a team that reportedly includes Spielberg.

It said that Zhang didn’t make any commitments to direct new films for the next couple of years just to prepare for the Olympics. Though he does have other ongoing commitments that may or may not affect his role in the Olympics.

Having Spielberg in that team will sure attract curiosity in Hollywood since he is considered as one of the best directors in the world. Spielberg’s directed films like “Schindler’s List,” “Saving Private Ryan” and yea, “Munich.” Good coincidence, huh?
