Spike Keeps Up His Fanged Image

ImageIt looks like all retired series actors are taking to video game related roles these days. First Counsellor Troy in Mass Effect and now, crawling from the crypts of Sunnydale, is Buffy’s own blonde bombshell vamp companion: Spike.

I know, I know, it’s not really video games, but I pass this one up. All you fang-loving ladies rejoice! James Marsters hasn’t fallen off the face of the earth, he’s just been carefully selecting his next role. After reviewing dozens of manuscripts, he’s decided that the best way to rejuvenate his career is to play…: nasty baddy Piccolo in the upcoming Dragon Ball Z movie. Obviously. That would be my first thought too.

The talent signed on to the movie actually kind of intrigues me, with James Wong (ex-X-Files scribe) in the director’s chair this time around, and Stephen Chow (Kung Fu Hustle) producing.

Watch for this one in the summer of 2008.

What planet have you been visiting??? Did you miss ‘Smallville’ & ‘Without a Trace’, indie films ‘Chance’, ‘Cool Money’, the upcoming ‘PS I Love you’ – voicing Superman: Doomsday etc etc etc??
James Marsters is a VERY busy man…

H-HIS POWERLEVEL IS BEYOND FIVE THOUSAND!!!! Gotta love piccolo… And Mass effect this friday!!!

  3. tucker_t says:

Huh? Although not all over the place, he has done Smallville, (recurring role) 2 movies (one direct to DVD, 1 TV), Without a Trace (recurring role) and has upcoming big-screen part (PS I Love You) and TV guesting (Torchwood). But, you probably need to look up from the gaming console once in a while to have known that.

  4. Kate says:

So he didn’t do these in the past few years then:-

    Cool Money – TV Movie
    The Mountain – Guest spot
Smallville – Recurring on S5 and returning in S7
    Saving Grace – Guest spot
    Shadow Puppets – DVD
PS, I Love You – Coming to our screens this December
The Dresden Files – Audio books
    Superman: Doomsday – Lex Luthor
Torchwood – Recurring in S2 and possibly beyond
Chasing the Devil – TV Movie
    Without A Trace – Recurring

Yeah, he’s just been kicking back and doing nothing. Are you a fact-checker on Wikipedia?

Next time, when you attempt to be funny, you might want to check you get your facts straight.

What have you been living in a cave?
Smallville, Without a Trace, Torchwood, P.S. I Love You, and many many other projects have kept James Marsters pretty busy.

So, having recurring characters on the current seasons of Smallville, Torchwood and Without a Trace, co-starring in the movie P.S. I Love You that’s out next month, and everything else he’s done in the last few years, plus recording a couple CDs of his music and touring, is being “retired” or “falling off the face of the earth”?? Ooookay.

Oy…so I apparently underestimated the fervour of Marsters fans out there. Fear not! I wasn’t trashing him at all, in fact I quite like Mr. Marsters (in non-Buffy roles in particular). I also didn’t say he hasn’t been doing anything, but see how it could be interpreted as such, and I stand humbled by the lengthy list of great projects he’s involved himself with of late. He’s a quality guy, hence my concern at him being involved with a movie likely to be so bad as to sully his sterling reputation.

Please try to get a sense of humour, I hear it makes life a little more bearable. I’ll try very hard to refrain from spitting on any canonical icons in the future.
