Startup ideas come in all shapes and sizes. The Sbarro Health Research Organization recently launched a startup eBay program that allows individuals to bid on eBay if they are interested in sponsoring a scientist. A winning bid results in a named fellowship that will go toward supporting a young scientist for an entire academic year.
The Sbarro Health Research Organization is a nonprofit research center that concentrates on cancer, diabetes and cardiovascular research. It is located in Philadelphia’s Temple University and another school in the country of Italy.
Bids for the fellowship starts at $25,000. Antonio Giordana, M.D., Ph.D. the founder and President of the Sbarro Health Research Organization, will have an active hand in teaching the scientist who receives the fellowship.
Said Giordano: “SHRO is at the forefront of molecular genetic discoveries in cancer and cardiovascular disease and in innovative methods to fund our important research. This new initiative is an extension of our drive to support talented researchers and to uncover new resources to continue our work.”
