Sports Bra Saves Alpine Hiker

When we think “mountains” and “rescue,” the first thing that comes to mind, thanks to years of intense—and um, still ongoing—Looney Tunes study, are St. Bernards wearing a barrel of booze around their necks. (FWIW, we didn’t see a single dog toting around libations during our trip to Switzerland, Germany, and Austria last year. What’s up with that?)
But it seems that in the Alps, sports bras can be pretty effective when you’ve been stranded for three days, too.
We had (brief) visions of a topless chick flailing around a bra (sorry, but the headline really threw us off). Alas, 24-year-old Jessica Bruinsma chose a far more clever tactic to call for help after falling onto a ledge: She fastened her sports bra to a timber-transport cable.
It worked. The sports bra was eventually spotted by a worker at the base and a rescue team caught up with the resourceful American hiker. She suffered a shoulder injury and a bruised leg but is otherwise fine.
Aww . . . who knew a sports bra could make everyone feel so warm and fuzzy?
