Discovering new ways to cheat at a game is somewhat thrilling, at least until you get caught. Square Enix has been forced to lay down the law recently. A bug in the system allowed players to exploit the game by duplicating in-game items, a bannable offense.

After some investigation, the bug was fixed, however, it was around long enough for a plethora of players to find and use it for their own benefit. As a direct violation of the Terms of Agreement, Square Enix has been forced to track down these individuals and drop the ban hammer.

“Approximately 400 players were temporarily suspended based on evidence gathered,” Square Enix stated. “Approximately 550 players who committed more serious misconduct had their accounts banned.”

Ouch. That’s got to really hurt the ones who’ve dedicated years to the game.

And so they should be! Damned cheaters. It’s a major pain when you are playing the game when there is somebody right there cheating and nobody can do anything about it
