Stephen Colbert is one of my heroes, but people are freaking out about this whole "running for president thing" when he's not going to do anything about it. What you have to understand first is his character: Stephen Colbert the real person is MUCH different than Stephen Colbert the character. His character in the Daily Show and The Colbert Report is a Huge Repulblican that is very closed minded and to a point kinda dumb; Not to put down his character because it's absolutely hilarious and it works. Stephen Colbert in real life is a HUG democrat that is extremely intelligent. Since the beginning of the Colbert Report, the running gag has been that he is the greatest human being alive and deserves praise. From Mascots to ice cream to animals at the zoo, the "Colbert empire" has been growing. But they are all stunts. It's great comedy; it works. Thats what this is; yet another stunt he's pulling for bigger ratings. And it's working. But even though he'll probably make some steps toward the presidency, he's eventually going to say on his show that he decided not to run, or he'll use some actual reason that he can't run and say that on the show. So he wants to be on the South Carolina primary. It's not been announced wether or not he actually will be yet, and if he will it's yet another stunt and probably won't extend beyond that. They are all a bunch of stunts that are hilarious, but you have to remember that he is a comedian, looking to do something comedic.

I have observed that Colbert has evolved (or at least transitioned) from being a sarcastic liberal pundit to a flat out mock-conservative shouter. If he's going to run for President, he'll have to either say what he actually means, or make the sarcasm much more transparent. If I (a New Yorker) can barely tell when he's serious, what's the average American voter to do?
