Stephen King on Game Violence

Well I’ve had a pretty chaotic week as the proprietor of PSMonger. My main computer done gone busted on me, which is the least of my problems right now. Still, the show must go on (okay I admittedly have no right to say that since I didn’t update regularly at all last week) and I have a small platoon of laptops in my employ. Let’s do this thing.

Chief horror author of the world, Stephen King, has aired a few grievances about politicians who are pissed off about violent video games. To summarise, he thinks said politicians are assholes and hypocrites, and I think everyone agrees that those are fine descriptors. On the other hand, I think we’ve learned that if a delightful grown-up wants to cite video games as the cause the collective youth’s problems, he or she really has no idea how society or video games work. Gamers are up against willful ignorance, and we’re never going to get anywhere because of it.

Still, it’s nice to know King’s on our side. That does it; I’m going to pitch my idea for a Pet Semetary platformer.

Don’t worry about these politicians or grown-ups against video games in general. They’ll eventually die out and be replaced by the younger generation (i.e. gamers).

Soon enough, our countries would be led by a GTA fan. Wait a minute, that didn’t sound too good…
